At the beginning of time there were only gods and goddesses on earth. They had to work the land to grow crops to eat. Each god and goddess had a job to do. Some dug the fields and planted the crops. Others dug ditches and watered the crops. The work was hard, and they were not happy. They got
together to discuss what to do. They went to Enki, who was wise and clever. Enki suggested to create humans to work the land, that way the Gods and Godesses wouldn't havtoe. Enki collected clay from his undewater home, and used it to create the humans. He breathed life into the clay figures, but he could'nt let them live forever. Only the gods and goddesses could be immortsl. The humans
went to the fields, and took buckets of water from the river, and watered the dry land, then they planted seeds, and grew crops.
Both the humans and the gods were happy.
